Chanel Matsuri Look

Clothes are all well and good on their own, but for many members of society, what really ties a look together is makeup: be it some lipstick, a little mascara, a pop of blush, or a full-face, makeup can be the thing that brings a look together. Chanel extended the Japanese matsuri (festival) season a little longer into Fall for a chance to let the public try on some of their best-selling makeup products, and lovers of the brand (both its makeup and fashion) showed up to test out some best-sellers in yata (festival booths)-style makeup counters with the help of professional makeup artists. Their Matsuri Look collection was the main focus, and attendees ate it up.

“These are the most popular Chanel products among Japanese women,” one makeup artist tending to mentioned, “many are red-toned.”

The reds among these favorites included the Le Vernis Longue Tenue Longwear Nail Enamel in 500 Rouge Essential, the Rouge Allure Liquid Powder in 956 and the Eyeshadow Quad in Candeur et Expèrience.

Along with the chance to try on makeup was the opportunity to participate in traditional Japanese festival activities with a Chanel twist. Crowd favorites like CHANEL KUJI, slips of paper featuring words of wisdom from Chanel’s matriarch, Gabrielle Chanel, inspired by traditional Japanese paper fortunes, and specially marked slips offered the chance to win mini samples of primers, and everyone event-goer received a sample pack of liquid lipsticks. If you didn’t win anything, like you would with a bad traditional luck fortune, you tied it to the trademark red logo standing in the middle of the event area.

Attendees were able to purchase products they enjoyed testing on-site. As the event drew to a close in the evening, the signature linked double-C lanterns illuminated the area and kept the matsuri going. The Chanel Matsuri was a beautiful blend of culture and fashion, and what else would you expect from Japan? We’re already looking forward to next year.
